In the first installment of our three-part blog series, Dr. Jodie Reinertson explained the benefits of choosing IPL Laser Skin Treatment. In today’s post, she will discuss candidacy requirements for photo-rejuvenation.
IPL laser skin treatment is an advanced facial rejuvenation technique used to treat numerous skin conditions, including age spots, broken capillaries, and acne. These areas of concern are often the result of excess sun exposure or a genetic predisposition. With the help of IPL therapy, many qualified patients can achieve a more even-toned, refreshed appearance.
To determine a patient’s candidacy for IPL treatment, I’ll begin with a consultation to discuss his or her aesthetic goals, current skin concerns, and skincare habits. Depending on these factors and others, I will often recommend IPL to help reduce abnormal pigmentation and symptoms of aging. Requirements for IPL candidacy include:
- Fair skin
- No recent tanning or sunburns
- No use of Retin-A or other sensitizing products
The laser used in treatment cannot differentiate between normal and abnormal pigmentation, so patients with olive or darker skin tones often aren’t suitable candidates, nor are individuals with tanned skin. However, there may be alternative options for patients who are not candidates for IPL therapy.
Having clear, even-toned skin is a common desire, and it’s possible to enjoy a more youthful, refreshed appearance without suffering extensive downtime or invasive procedures thanks to IPL laser skin treatments.
Check back with our blog soon for the final installment of our three-part series on IPL. In our final post, Dr. Reinertson details the typical photofacial treatment experience from beginning to end.
