In the previous installment of our three-part blog series on IPL Laser Skin Treatment, skin care specialist Jodie Reinertson, MD discussed who makes a good candidate for the facial rejuvenation procedure. In our final post, she details the typical IPL experience.
IPL laser skin treatment is a minimally invasive and effective method for addressing signs of aging, sun damage, and common skin conditions. The first step in IPL is scheduling a consultation, as meeting with the patient is key to determining specific concerns and aspirations. From there, I can develop a custom facial rejuvenation plan that addresses bothersome areas.
After a comprehensive discussion, my patient meets with a highly trained laser technician. Non-surgical facial enhancements are often quick procedures, and IPL treatment typically lasts an hour. Photofacial generally follows these six steps:
- Topical numbing agent applied for 15 minutes
- Solution removed, skin washed
- Eye protection put in place
- Clear gel applied to area to be treated
- Laser uniformly pulses over entire treatment area
- Gel washed off, finishing lotion and sunscreen applied
Individual experience varies, but most patients do not feel much discomfort. The sensation is commonly compared to light rubber band snaps. Because patient comfort is a priority, I utilize a cooling method unique to CosMedic Skincare as well as complimentary numbing cream.
Recovery is typically quick and side effects are usually minimal. To help ensure the best outcome, patients are encouraged to avoid sun exposure for 4-6 weeks prior to receiving photo-regenerative treatments.
